There’s been quite a bit of buzz over the past few months about the new products being introduced in the Palmetto Road line and we are happy to say, the wait is over! Chesapeake (laminate) and Highlands Park (hardwood) have officially launched this week.
The realism of the Chesapeake Collection is pretty remarkable. The collection so closely mirrors the colors and hand scraped texture of Palmetto Road Hickory hardwood that it is hard to tell the difference when the boards are side by side.
Chesapeake is a 12 mm laminate floor with 5″ wide and 48″ length planks. It is CARB II Certified and passes tests for safe formaldehyde emissions. With an AC3 wear resistant layer, it is suitable for residential or light commercial installations. The collection offers a 25 year residential and a 5 year light commercial warranty.
Named after the beautiful Chesapeake Bay area in Virginia, the collection offers four beautiful colors, Aberdeen, Bridgeport, Delmar and Sumter.
Highlands Park shown in Hartwell
Palmetto Road’s new Knotty Acacia collection, Highlands Park is stunning with its many knots and swirl grains.
As with the other hardwood collections in the line, Highlands Park is 100% hand scraped with 8 Coats Valspa Aluminum Oxide Semi-gloss Finish. The planks measure 3/8” X 5” X 1″-4’ (random length) with a 1.5mm wear layer.
The engineered wood collection includes five unique colors: Loudoun, Grayson, Dreher, Hartwell and Cordell.
Display updates are available for both new collections. For more information and to see a sample of the Chesapeake and Highlands Park collections, please contact your sales representative. Information is also available by logging into your WM Bird or Southern Tile Online accounts.
Stay tuned for more Palmetto Road product launches coming in May!
Being in the flooring business means at one time or another you’ve come across a subfloor so damaged that repairs seem hopeless. Cracks, chips, crumbling concrete…the worst subfloor ever!
William M. Bird Sales Rep Kevin Fearer, and his dealer David Vaughn of Right Touch Enterprises in Greensboro, North Carolina, recently experienced that very situation.
Kevin and David specified Schönox products when bidding on the Y2 Yoga studio project in Charlotte, North Carolina; a 7,500 square foot space of old “junk” subfloor. Another company underbid the project, won the job, and used an inferior product to repair a portion of the subfloor. A month or so later the repair started to fail, putting the project behind schedule.
Just launched for 2015, Tarkett’s new laminate line-up offers realistic visuals, designer colors and many attractive selling features. The additions include new skus to the existing Trends line, as well as, entirely new collections: Trends 12, Hertitage, Woodstock and Vintage.
These new collections feature:
UV oil finish inspiration
varied widths and lengths
modern designer colors
This new collection of 2 designs (Royal Oak and Factor 6) totals 9 color ways. The product captures unique realism and selling features in a premium 12 mm thickness.
The market for wide width, European Oak is growing exponentially in real wood. Trends 12 uniquely captures the realism and sophisticiation of this premium hardwood product, allowing consumers to have the look of this elegant wood, with the value and performance of laminate. Royal Oak incorporates 3 unique design features, easily conveyed at retail, to add to the consumer value.
Two separate print designs are shuffled and combined into one SKU to create 12 unique planks per design that truly replicate the wood with realistic shading.
A low 5 degree gloss level is produced to replicate the UV oil finish from its hardwood inspiration. This gloss level adds to the realism.
An ultra-high definition embossed in register process is used to capture every aspect of the design in print and texture. Far away or close up, Royal Oak captures the ultimate in realism.
Hand scraped and rustics continue to capture large shares of the laminate market. The new Factor 6 design will bring the rustics category to a whole new level with easy features for retailers to explain to consumers. Factor 6 offers both random width and random length planks.
While random width continues to grow in popularity, Factor 6 excels with 3 different widths and two different lengths in every carton. There are 6 different size planks in every box to create a true rustic look.
A subtle hand scraped finish covers all areas, but is combined with embossed in register rustic accents to create more realism.
Factor 6, Amaretto
Trends 10mm is a strong seller in the Tarkett laminate line with the 4″ products accounting for much of the volume. To offer more color choices in this popular 4″ width, Tarkett has added two new colors.

The installation system on Metroflor Corporation’s Engage has been given a refresh for 2015. The popular LVT line now features UniFit Locking Technology which promises a faster, easier and more advanced installation system. Unifit technology is compatible with Engage products featuring prior generations of locking technology.
The new system is engineered for speed of installation. The installer simply positions the planks together and then taps the end joint to lock the planks in place. See how in this short video:
Bird sales reps had an opportunity to view Engage with UniFit Locking Technology at our annual sales meeting in December, so ask your rep for a demonstration and product information. You can also learn more about Engage at www.metroflorengage.com/unifit
